Title – The Tutoring Center is Not Just a Physical Space - The Value of Genuine Relationships

Presenter: Gabriel Angrand, Assistant Director of the OAR (Haverford College)

Like learning centers, faith communities are sociocultural spaces that double as sanctuary for some of our most championed student populations. Successful communities first serve others where they feel comfortable. How might our marketing efforts, student staff composition, and campus reputation shift if student and professional staff leveraged strategic opportunities to build genuine relationships outside of the proverbial church? The underlying framework and its conceptual questions will be engaged through think-pair-share activities (accessible virtually as well).

Title – What Ifs

Presenters –BCC Writing Center Tutors and Staff (Bronx Community College)

Tutors from various centers at Bronx Community College will discuss and articulate their personal experiences of dealing with and confronting the unexpected nature of What-Ifs that can occur during tutoring sessions. Along with sharing our own experiences, we will also engage our audience in how to be proactive in those situations. Resources and existing literature will be used to deepen the understanding of how to navigate a number of scenarios. Lastly, tutors receive the brunt end and initial reaction of students What-Ifs outburst. That being said, how can tutors properly and professionally address the What-Ifs as first responders in the academic field of life on a campus university.
